This weekend’s motor update reflects a sector under pressure – from economic, regulatory and operational angles – while revealing encouraging signs of resilience and innovation.

The continued rise in motor insurance premiums is leading some UK drivers to reduce cover or forgo insurance altogether, exposing themselves and others to serious risk (Credit Strategy). Meanwhile, the FCA is defending its £1m public awareness campaign discouraging the use of claims firms in relation to historic car loan mis-selling (The Guardian).

Following its major cyber-attack, Jaguar Land Rover is beginning a phased restart of operations (BBC), with the government backing a £1.5bn loan guarantee to help stabilise the supply chain (BBC). However, the disruption continues to impact thousands of workers and suppliers, prompting additional calls for government support (Ben).

Elsewhere, the Health and Safety Executive has launched 1,000 inspections targeting occupational asthma in vehicle repair businesses (HSE), and interest in electric vehicles remains robust, with ‘middle-aged’ EVs now the UK’s fastest-selling used cars (Autotrader).

These developments highlight both the volatility and agility shaping a better tomorrow across the motor claims and repair ecosystem.
