Subsidence – Tree Law launches carbon calculator

Ahead of participation at this year’s ILC’s Home & Property specialist Subsidence Conference taking place on Thursday 7 March 2024 at the Manufacturing Technology Centre (Coventry), in this contributed feature Sarah Dodd, Founding Director of Tree Law provides an insight into the newly launched carbon calculator.

Specialist law firm Tree Law has launched a new product that accurately calculates the carbon footprint of claims involving trees.

Its Subsidence Climate Change Calculator assesses scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions to provide an environmental overview of each claim, and it tailored to each individual insurer’s process.

The solution also includes an audit trail so insurers can measure and justify their actions based on an environmental assessment, while also comparing the footprint of alternative solutions such as tree removal, tree root barrier installation, and underpinning.

Founding Director Sarah Dodd, said, “The new Subsidence Climate Change Calculator marks a significant leap forward in further integrating environmental considerations into the insurance claims process. By offering insurers a tailored, accurate, and transparent assessment of carbon footprints, I believe this tool will reshape to the industry’s approach to climate change mitigation.”

Sarah added, “I am also working on the creation of a report that will summarise the calculator’s workings and offer advice on how to offset the carbon footprint. It will also include details on whether there are any issues relating to that claim that need to be considered, for example, if it is a high-risk location, or there have been previous issues in the area.”
