AkzoNobel Vehicle Refinishes has announced major progress in the expansion of its Sustainable Repair Network (SRN) across Europe, with over 203 certified bodyshops now part of the initiative and an additional 290 bodyshops actively engaged in the process.
Launched to help the vehicle repair industry reduce emissions and embed circular practices, the SRN supports bodyshops and multi-site operators with tailored tools, technical guidance, and a structured certification framework. The initiative aligns with AkzoNobel’s science-based target to reduce carbon emissions by 50% across its value chain by 2030.
The network now spans 10 countries – including the UK, France, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands – and is already working with more than 119 companies. It aims to embed sustainability at every level of vehicle refinishing, from process analysis to emissions reduction strategies.
The SRN certification follows a three-tier model:
- Level 1: Establishes monitoring of CO₂e emissions and sets improvement goals.
- Level 2: Introduces targeted sustainability strategies and action plans.
- Level 3: Confirms implementation, tracking, and ongoing performance improvements.
Ignacio Román Navarro, Business Director for Automotive and Vehicle Refinishes EMEA, said: “Sustainability is a shared priority across the industry – from OEMs to insurers and repairers. True progress requires collaboration, and we are proud that so many forward-thinking bodyshops have joined us and are making meaningful progress.”
AkzoNobel is also actively contributing to broader industry change through its involvement with the Forum on Automotive Aftermarket Sustainability (FAAS) and the UK’s new Accident Repair Industry Environmental Standard (ARIES).
