Automotive industry charity Ben marked International Men’s Day (19 November) with the launch of a new Men’s Health Awareness training course, designed to help employers and employees better understand and support men’s physical, emotional, and psychological wellbeing.
With men making up over 82% of the UK’s automotive workforce – and statistics showing one in five men die before the age of 65 – Ben’s latest initiative seeks to raise awareness and break the silence around health and wellbeing issues that often go unspoken.
The training is open to all industry professionals, including people managers and all genders, and can be delivered either face-to-face or virtually. It covers a range of key topics, including:
- Common health challenges and risks facing men
- Strategies for building resilience and confidence
- Guidance on supporting others through meaningful conversations
- A toolkit filled with practical wellbeing resources
Julie Hayes, Specialist Services Lead at Ben, said: “With a high proportion of males working in the industry, we’re pleased to launch this new Men’s Health Awareness training offering for automotive employers. It’s vital to be driving awareness and strengthening men’s health and wellbeing across the industry. Too often, common health and wellbeing concerns go unspoken – and that silence can have a serious impact”.
The course is part of a broader programme of new training solutions from Ben. It follows the recent launch of a course focused on equality, diversity and inclusion, with a Women’s Health Awareness course set to follow in the new year.
Crucially, all profits from Ben Training courses are reinvested into the charity’s free, confidential support services, which are available to anyone working in the automotive sector and their families. With over 99% of recent survey respondents indicating they had been affected by a health and wellbeing issue, demand for Ben’s services continues to grow.
Ben’s broader offering includes online and digital self-help tools, a confidential helpline, and specialist services tailored to individual needs, all aimed at empowering automotive professionals to live and work well.
