New insights from the Europcar Mobility Group UK’s 2025 EV Barometer indicate growing confidence among UK businesses in adopting electric vehicles (EVs), with a significant drop in perceived barriers over the past year.
According to the report, which reflects responses from business drivers throughout 2025, the proportion of employees stating that no barriers stood in the way of their employer transitioning to a greener fleet almost doubled – rising from 11% in 2024 to 21% in 2025.
Among the most notable improvements, concerns over charging infrastructure fell from 35.5% to 29%, while lack of knowledge decreased from 20% to 16.8%. However, cost remains a major concern, cited by 38% of employees.
Tom Middleditch, Sustainability spokesperson at Europcar, welcomed the findings, stating, “It is clear that barriers to switching to EV do still remain for many businesses, but it is very encouraging to see overall perceptions moving in the right direction.”
He pointed to improved UK-wide charging infrastructure, a broader range of vehicle options, and greater understanding of EV technology as key factors shifting sentiment. “As adoption increases, more positive experiences are shared, leading to more drivers being reassured and willing to try zero tailpipe emissions driving,” he added.
