Mirka UK has expanded its automotive product portfolio with the launch of a new plastic repair kit for the collision repair sector.
The Mirka Plastic Repair Solution has been developed to provide bodyshops with a standardised approach to repairing damaged plastic components, helping create additional repair opportunities while reducing reliance on replacement parts.
The kit brings together the components required throughout the plastic repair process, including abrasives, Easy Weld Strips, Easy Weld Tri Rods, ABS Strips, a Bumper Push Tool, Mini Tab Repair Jig Kit, Plastic Shaving File, Burr Grinder, Weld Support Tape and Plastic Bond.
According to Mirka, combining the products into a single solution provides technicians with the equipment required for reshaping, aligning, supporting, welding, guiding, trimming and finishing damaged plastic components.
It is also intended to establish a standardised and repeatable repair method, rather than technicians relying on individual products or improvised techniques.
The Easy Weld Strips use thermal fusion with the original plastic substrate and are suitable for repairs across modern bumper systems, while Easy Weld Tri Rods have been designed for more precise welding around corners, edges, angled sections and reinforced geometries.
ABS welding rods are included for more rigid exterior plastic components, such as grilles, mirror housings and trims.
The kit also includes tools intended to support the reshaping and alignment of damaged bumpers and mounting points. The Bumper Push Tool enables controlled shaping and contour correction, while the adjustable Mini Tab Repair Jig Kit supports the alignment of damaged mounting points during welding.
Mirka’s Abranet Max Mini Flap abrasive discs are included for material removal in non-visible inner bumper areas. They are designed to minimise heat build-up and reduce the risk of overheating or re-melting previously welded areas.
Steve Smith, National Sales Manager, Collision Repair at Mirka UK, said: “The Mirka Plastic Repair Solution represents an important step in how we support collision repair professionals.
“As a business, we saw a gap in the market when it comes to plastic repair, and we believe this solution meets the needs of the workshops and provides them with all the necessary items so they can offer plastic repair as a supplementary service.”
Steve added that the standardised process is intended to enable workshops to “repair more, replace less and make plastic repair a more valuable part of their operation”.
