Motofix invests in plastic repair tech

Motofix Group has expanded its commitment to sustainable and future-ready vehicle repair with the acquisition of nine new EXT plastic welders from Cornerstone Technologies Ltd, enhancing its group-wide plastic repair capability.

The investment supports a growing need for advanced plastic repair as modern vehicles increasingly incorporate complex composite materials. By equipping technicians and vehicle damage assessors (VDAs) with cutting-edge welding tools and training, Motofix aims to deliver manufacturer-aligned repairs that are both safe and high quality.

Richard Tutt, Chairman at Motofix Group, said: “The way vehicles are designed and built is changing rapidly, and our repair capability must evolve with it. Investing in more advanced plastic repair technology allows us to deliver safer, more sustainable repairs while supporting our insurer partners with improved cycle times and cost control. This is another important step in ensuring Motofix remains well-positioned for the future of vehicle repair.”

In addition to ensuring repair integrity, the new welders enable Motofix to reduce waste, limit materials usage and help insurers meet ESG targets – all while maintaining cost efficiency. The improved plastic repair process also mitigates key-to-key delays caused by global parts shortages, enhancing throughput and service reliability across the group.

Michael Beale, Group Technical Manager at Motofix, added: “Modern plastic components require the right equipment, processes, and training to be repaired safely and compliantly. These new plastic welders significantly enhance our ability to safely repair where appropriate, helping us manage parts availability challenges while maintaining high technical standards across all sites.”

Cornerstone Technologies, which supplied the equipment, continues to support the repair industry with innovative tooling and training. Tony Ward, Managing Director, commented on the partnership: “It’s been a real privilege to witness and be a part of Motofix’s journey… We are looking forward to continuing the partnership into 2026.”

The development is part of Motofix’s broader strategic investment in tooling, technology and technician training – reinforcing its position as a forward-thinking, quality-led repair group.
