ARC360 event to set out future path 

The future of the vehicle repair sector is set to be unveiled at ARC360’s forthcoming ‘future vehicle technology’ themed event. 

Taking place on Thursday 27 June 2024 at the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) in Coventry, the specialist event is sponsored by Activate Group, Thatcham Research and Stellantis, and will examine topics such as the chancing car parc, the impact of the ZEV Mandate, and integration within the repair sector. 

AkzoNobel secures international standard 

AkzoNobel’s power coatings site in Como, Italy, has received International Automotive Task Force (IATF) 16949 certification, a global technical specification and quality management standard which focuses on continuous improvement, defect prevention and waste reduction within the automotive supply chain. 

S&G Response identifies engineering hits and misses 

S&G Response has highlighted five cars it believes has engineering challenges, and five that display engineering excellence. 

It has identified the Tesla Model S, Ford Focus (2012-2018), Jeep Wrangler (2018-present), Nissan Pathfinder (2013-2014), and BMW 7 Series (2002-2008) as models with challenges, while the Toyota Camry, Honda Civic, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Porsch 911 and Lexus RX as being standard setters. 

Markerstudy unveils Sustainable Supply Chain Charter 

Markerstudy is inviting suppliers to demonstrate their commitment to its sustainability targets by signing its new Sustainable Supply Chain Charter.  

The charter is the first part of Markerstudy’s Sustainable Supply Chain Programme, which will benchmark suppliers via third-party assessments and then support them in making the necessary improvements. 

TRL part of PACTS mentality 

TRL has signed up to The Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety (PACTS) manifesto, which calls for immediate action to address the persistent issue of road fatalities and serious injuries on UK roads.  

AV Act leaves unanswered questions 

Thatcham Research has called for further legislation to ensure the safe introduction of autonomous vehicles to UK roads after the Automated Vehicles Act received Royal Assent this week. 

The Act could pave the way for autonomous vehicles to join UK roads as early as 2026, but Thatcham Research has said that additional legislation around safety, access to data, and potential cyber threats will be critical. 

Solera and Audatex agree sustainability partnership 

Solera has announced a new strategic partnership to better support the repair industry measure and reduce CO2 emissions. 

The partnership means Axalta becomes the first paint manufacturer to provide data to calculate emissions of specific processes and products during the repair as opposed to industry averages.

Construction supply chain pressures ease 

The latest report from the Construction Leadership Council’s Material Supply Chain Group has revealed good levels of product availability in the sector, but has identified continued price volatility around timber-related products and PIR insulation boards. 

Flood risk rises home premiums to £1,000 

A Rotherham resident has seen her home insurance premiums nearly double to £1,000 after the property was flooded three times in 25 years. 

Insurer AXA has said the price hikes are the result of ‘her recent claims and increased flood risk in the area.’

Winning the talent war with military spouses 

A thread running through ILC’s New Generation in Claims event held in Manchester recently was the need to approach recruitment differently in order to access a more diverse talent pool.  

Speaking at the event were Heledd Kendrick and Cerise Upham, CEO and Managing Director of Recruit for Spouses (RFS), who revealed that thousands of highly skilled and flexible employees were just a phone call away. 

AI can reduce bias 

While many fear increased bias as a result of greater implementation of AI, Synetics Solutions argued that the correct approach to leveraging the technology, particularly around fraud and finance, can actually reduce bias in risk evaluation and decision-making. 

Marshmallow joins IFB  

Marshmallow will enhance its counter-fraud strategy and collaborate with the wider industry to tackle the issue after becoming a member of the Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB).

The benefits of parametric insurance are under-used and misunderstood, according to Ola Jacob, Parametric Insurance Development Director at Descartes Underwriting

He was talking at the recent Insurtech Insights event in London.

Brown & Brown (Europe) has acquired Garratts Insurance Brokers, which serves commercial, charity and contractor customers, as well as Essex-based broker BNF Insurance Services, which writes insurance for commercial customers and creatives, as well as property and motor.

Mental health bill tops £51bn 

New research from Deloitte has revealed that the cost to employers of poor mental health is £51bn per year, with presenteeism – turning up for work while ill and under-performing – accounting for £24bn of that. 

Positive movement for mental health 

The Mental Health Foundation has celebrated a successful Mental Health Awareness Week, which concluded on 19 May.  

This year’s theme was ‘Movement,’ aiming to raise awareness around the mental health benefits of being physically active.
