Volteras launches synthetic EV testing platform

ILC ARTICLE

Volteras has introduced a synthetic data environment designed to help fleet operators test connected electric vehicle (EV) platforms without the need for physical demonstration vehicles.

The new sandbox platform enables fleet customers to evaluate how connected vehicle data behaves before live EVs are introduced, reducing the time and cost traditionally associated with testing connected fleet technology.

Using synthetic data, the platform simulates real-world vehicle behaviour, allowing virtual EVs from different manufacturers to generate telemetry that mirrors the data produced by connected vehicles. The simulated vehicles operate continuously within a virtual environment, producing information such as vehicle location, mileage, charging activity and battery state of charge.

This enables fleet operators to interact with Volteras’ application programming interface (API), monitor how vehicle data evolves over time and validate integrations before deploying physical vehicles.

The platform also allows users to test custom alerts, including geofencing and mileage notifications, against realistic synthetic telemetry. According to Volteras, this gives customers the opportunity to verify their data and operational processes before introducing connected vehicles into their fleets.

Barnaby Hewlett, Head of Product Design at Volteras, said: “Testing connected EV fleet data used to mean sourcing demo vehicles, waiting weeks for meaningful telemetry to build up, and hoping the data told you what you needed to know.

“With the Volteras sandbox, fleet customers can explore synthetic EV data immediately with no physical vehicles required. That means fleet managers can interact with our API, test geofence and mileage alerts, and validate their entire data setup before a single real vehicle appears on their choice list.”

While the sandbox is not intended to replicate factors such as battery degradation or weather conditions, it has been developed to provide structured and realistic connected vehicle telemetry that reflects how EV data behaves in practice. Volteras said the approach is designed to accelerate the evaluation of connected vehicle platforms and support faster adoption across fleet, mobility and insurance organisations.
