Insurance scam warning: fake delivery driver jobs this Christmas 

Job seekers are being warned of fake delivery driver work being listed over the festive period, enabling insurance details to be stolen by fraudsters. Stolen identities are highly valuable to fraudsters, who use them to carry out harmful scams such as Crash for Cash and Ghost Broking. Cases of identity theft reported to the IFB have risen annually, with a sharp 42% increase in the past year alone. Read more

Motor Insurance Taskforce Report: much said, little delivered 

On 10 December, the Government published its long-anticipated Motor Insurance Taskforce report. Originally launched under Louise Haigh, the review lost momentum following her departure and, as inflation stabilised, the political drive behind the work appeared to wane. Once in office, Labour appeared to begin to appreciate the structural pressures on the motor market – rising repair and parts costs, lack of credit hire regulation, and continuing fraud – dampening expectations of sweeping reform. Read more

Nissan and Wayve Sign Definitive Agreements to Deliver Next-Generation Driver Assistance Technology 

US: Nissan Motor Co Ltd and Wayve have announced the signing of definitive agreements to collaborate on integrating the next-generation ProPILOT series with Wayve AI technology across a broad range of Nissan vehicles. Letter to Commission: keep EU industry strong with flexible climate rules and local content 

CLEPA has issued a letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, calling for urgent measures to restore Europe’s competitiveness in the automotive sector. In the letter, CLEPA highlights the critical role suppliers play, generating 75% of a vehicle’s value, employing 1.7 million people, and investing €30 billion annually in R&D. The association warns that without decisive action, Europe could lose up to 650,000 jobs by 2035. Read more

BCA: Seasonal pressures continue but markets remain healthy in November 

Typical seasonal pressure came on used car values during November according to the latest data from BCA Valuations, with this driven by both a shift in stock mix and traditional seasonal monthly guide price moves. Ghosts on the road: tackling the rise in illegal registration plates 

This report was proposed to the APPG for Transport Safety by Sarah Coombes MP, building on her campaign to crack down on registration plate non-compliance. Funding was sought and jointly provided by the RAC, the British Number Plates Manufacturers Association (BNMA) and the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) who share these concerns about the use of ghost plates. Read more
