Environmental issues and tree management challenges 

Experts taking part in ILC’s third Specialist Subsidence Conference have warned of increased instances of subsidence as climate change accelerates, and urged all stakeholders to take a more proactive approach to tree management challenges. 

Taking part in the panel debate, ‘Environmental issues and tree management challenges’, were Anthony Byars, Liability Risk Consultant, Zurich Resilience Solutions; Richard Rollitt, Technical Director, Innovation Group; Sarah Dodd, Founder, Tree Law; and Freya Chapman, Residential Lead, Mainmark. 

CoreLogic UK announces Parity Projects acquisition 

CoreLogic UK has completed the acquisition of Parity Projects, which uses data science, proprietary software and analysis to help clients develop cost-effective retrofit programmes. 

The acquisition, which supports CoreLogic UK’s ambition of minimising the environmental impact of building projects, will focus on providing the ability to identify, assess and model properties that are suitable for retrofit measures. 

QuestGates announces key acquisitions 

QuestGates has strengthened its position in the structural engineering sector with the acquisition of Martin Evans Associates (MEA) and BTA Structural Design.  

The two businesses will become subsidiaries of QuestGates-owned Structural Surveys, with James Birdwood of BTA and Martin Evans remaining within the company and reporting to Andrew Russell, Managing Director of Structural Surveys. 

Taking the heat out of oil spills 

RSK Raw’s Simon O’Rourke will join Mike Lenn of Ecologia on a webinar addressing the complexities of assessing contamination in domestic properties affected by heating oil losses. 

Environmental Claims – The Technical Challenges of Heating Oil Spills’ will take place on 9 May at 12.30pm.

ClaimsTech – The Pitch competition heating up 

ILC’s ClaimsTech – The Pitch competition is heating up as a number of start-up/scale-up insurtechs recognise the opportunity at hand. 

Introduced last year, ILC’s ClaimsTech – The Pitch is once again supported by Insurtech UK, and provides the opportunity for a number of start-up/scale-up insurtechs to present their technologies exclusively to an audience of highly influential insurance experts and investors. 

Further key names added to ClaimsTech agenda 

George Beattie, Head of Innovation, CFC and Steven Williams, Head of EV Strategy, and Telematics and Connected Insurance at DLG are the two newest names added to the ClaimsTech – The Journey agenda. 

The two key figures join previously announced names Liz Latter, CEO of Qlaims and Ed Gaze, CIO of Innovative Risk Labs on 3 July 2024 in London for ClaimsTech – The Journey 2024 which will split into specialist Home and Property or Motor technology streams to explore how technology can positively affect customer outcomes. 

Reporting for Consumer Duty 

Alpha has partnered with PIMFA to provide a white paper helping organisations prepare their first annual Consumer Duty Board report. 

The report is due by the end of July and will require organisations to evidence how they have provided good outcomes for consumers since Consumer Duty was introduced.  


Leading influencers assemble for Future Tech event 

Vehicle Technology Manager at Thatcham Research Tom Leggett is the latest leading influencer to join ARC360’s specialist ‘future vehicle technology’ themed event agenda. 

Tom is responsible for gathering insight and intelligence regarding current and future vehicle technology across areas such as automation, connectivity, safety, repair, manufacturing, electrification and security.  

The event will take place on Thursday 27 June at the Manufacturing Technology Centre in Coventry.

Nightingale helps handlers automate workflows, process hire invoices in minutes, and increase indemnity savings. 

BHR Assist rocks in Gibralter 

BHR Assist Insurance Services is in line to win the GFSB Business Innovation Awards 2024 after being named finalist for its Intervene product. 

The awards recognise the most innovative and forward-thinking businesses in Gibraltar.   

Motor insurance complaints more than double next product line 

New figures from the Financial Conduct Authority have revealed that complaints received about motor insurers have risen by 18.2% in the last year. 

Customers made more than 280,000 complaints about motor insurance over the second half of 2023, up from a little under 240,000 for the same period in 2022. 

Car vandalism cause for concern 

Which? Reports almost 3,000 vehicles are vandalised each week in England and Wales. 

The research by Churchill Motor Insurance found Devon and Cornwall had the highest number of cases, while train stations were also hotspots for criminals. 

Some areas have seen vandalism reports drop – the number of cases in a total of 25 forces fell in April to September 2023. 


Marsh unveils supply chain risk management solution 

Marsh McLennan has unveiled a new AI-powered platform to enhance supply chain risk management. 

Sentrisk leverages advanced supply chain mapping AI and geospatial satellite imaging to help companies map their supply chains more comprehensively and develop risk mitigation, transfer, and management strategies. 

Pen writes new deal with Zurich 

Pen Underwriting has extended its long-term strategic collaboration with Zurich in the Republic of Ireland. 

The agreement will see Zurich continue to provide 100% capacity up to £39m for its highly specialist fleet insurance offering. 

OneBefore unveils eco-travel policy 

MGA OneBefore has launched the One Tree Travel sustainable travel insurance policy. 

Distributed exclusively by Freedom Insurance Services, the policy pledges to plant one tree for every policy sold. 

Yutree announces AXA partnership 

MGA Yutree, which supports brokers serving media and entertainment clients, is partnering with AXA to address the market’s underinsurance challenge.

Inspired colleagues accelerate profits and revenues 

WTW has identified a clear link between employee experience and profitability.  

Its High Performance Experience Survey, carried out over three years, revealed that high-performance companies, identified by their ability to inspire employees around purpose and trust in leadership, reported an 11-fold increase in profit margins, nearly three times the increase in revenue growth and twice the return on equity. 

IFB exposes bizarre claims lies 

The Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB) has highlighted the most bizarre lies people have told their insurer when making a claim. 

These include using YouTube videos of broken items to support a claim, blaming pets for breaking or spilling things on devices, changing the date an item was damaged or stolen, and then taking out a policy afterwards.  

Allianz announces broker team rebrand 

Allianz has announced the rebrand of it personal lines broker team to Allianz UK Personal Lines. 

As part of the relaunch, Carolyn Rich has been appointed Director of Brand, Nicola George has been appointed Managing Director and Caroline Johnson has been appointed Claims Director.   

BIBA calls for IPT rate review 

The HMRC is predicting an 11% rise in tax receipts for 2023/24 to £8.1bn. 

In response, BIBA is calling for a cut to the headline Insurance Premium Tax rate from 12% to 10%, as well as exemptions to cyber insurance and multi-occupancy residential buildings that require or are undergoing remediation.  


Direct Line Group has announced three new appointments to its Executive Committee. Craig Thornton will be appointed Managing Director Home and Growth, Martin Milliner as Managing Director of Claims and Hugh Hessing as Chief Operating Officer.  

Allianz has promoted Caroline Johnson to Claims Director in the company’s personal lines business, while Nicola George has taken over from Mike Crane as Managing Director. 

Margaret Scott has been named Director, Business Transformation & Customer Experience at Allianz Insurance.   

The MIB has announced Angus Eaton as its new CEO, taking over from Dominic Clayden in July. 

Allianz Commercial has appointed Faith Kitchen to Head of Client Relationship Management for mid-market. 

Adam Wright has been appointed as Property Underwriting Director for the UK at Ecclesiastical. 

Jane Pocock, CEO of Copart UK & Ireland, has been recognised in the 2024 Autocar Great Women Top 100, celebrating the most influential women in the British car industry today. 

Shift Technology has named George Robbins as Head of UK Markets. Meanwhile, Iain Jones, Katie Hill and Laura Horrocks have also joined the UK team.  

Benjamin E. has joined Consumer Intelligence as Head of Partnerships. 

Pen Underwriting UK has named Richard Millar as Service Delivery Manager. 

Copart UK has appointed Jamie Walker as Sustainability Manager. 

Chris Laughton has been named Technical Director at Gateley Smithers Purslow. 

CET has announced Stephen Hague as its new Distribution and Product Development Director.
